Monroe County is Macon's northern edge, the first county up I-75 from the city, and its identity is genuinely split: a historic courthouse-square county seat in Forsyth, lake country around High Falls State Park and Lake Juliette in the north, and a growing commuter base for households working in Macon or heading toward Atlanta.

The lakes are the county's calling card. High Falls State Park, built around a towered waterfall on the Towaliga River, draws campers and hikers, and Lake Juliette, a large reservoir with a forested shoreline, anchors the quieter recreation side with the Juliette community on its banks. The small towns, from historic Culloden in the south to Juliette by the lake, keep the county's character intact as the subdivisions grow.
